Regulations for the

1st Alamein International Film Festival

Article 1:

“Alamein International Film Festival” is an annual exceptional film festival showing classic and contemporary world cinema. The festival organized by Egypt Films, will be held under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of culture, with the strong support of other official and private organizations.

The aim of the Festival is to create an atmosphere of friendship and dialogue between Egyptian and worldwide filmmakers and audiences through the art of cinema, to strengthen cultural relationships between countries through film, and to raise cinematic sensibility. The Festival works also to contribute towards the development of Egyptian, Arab and international cinema as an art and industry.

Article 2:

The 1st Alamein International Film Festival will be held in New Alamein city of Egypt.

Article 3:

A selection committee comprised of a number of prominent filmmakers and film critics will select the films with the coordination of the Artistic Director of the festival. The section under which the film will be screened is to be determined after the approval of the festival’s executive board.

4.1 International official competition of feature-length fiction films.
4.2 Panorama ( Out of competition)
4.3 Special programs
a- Children’s Films competition (any film dedicated for children in any age group, in any length)
b- Cinema & Music competition (any film treating music related topic in any length)
c- Cinema & Nature competition (any film treating Environmental issue in any length)
d- Cinema & technology competition (any film treating technology related topic in any length)
e- Tributes to a countries through its films and arts

f- Tributes to prominent filmmakers
4.4 Special Events
a – Workshops
b- “Cinema and sustainable development” Hub
c- Master Classes and cinema lesson
d- Industry Symposium and Panels
e- Carnival events (music, expositions ..etc)

Article 5: selection of films

1. Official International Competition of feature-length fiction films
• Submission forms must be completed and sent by electronic mail to [email protected]
The following items must be received by the festival:
– Online secured link of the film with English subtitles in addition the film’s press kit, main list of cast and crew
– A completed submission form including synopsis, bio-filmography of the film director, production note, digital photos…etc

– The festival will not accept the submission of a work in progress.
Note: Incomplete submission forms will not be considered. All requested information is essential for a submission to be considered valid.

Article 6- Regulations for films in the official competition

• Feature-length fiction films with duration of more than 60 minutes will be only considered.
. Films must not have been participated in any other festival in Egypt.
• Films must not have been broadcast in any Arab TV terrestrial or satellite channel, on the internet, mobile phone, or any other streaming service reaching Egypt, until the presentation of the film in the festival.
• Films must have been produced starting from 1st January 2019.
• Films must be screened in their original version with English subtitles.
. More than one film from the same country may be entered in this competition
• Films will be screened in DCP and HD

Article 7- Regulations for films children’s films competition

• Fiction or animation films in any duration will only be considered.
. Films must not have been participated in any other festival in Egypt.
• Films must not have been broadcasted in any Arab TV terrestrial or satellite channel, on the internet, mobile phone, or any other streaming service reaching Egypt, until the presentation of the film at the festival.
• Films must have been produced starting from of 1st January 2018.
• Films must be screened in their original version with English subtitles.
. More than one film from the same country may be entered in this competition
• Films will be screened in DCP, Blu-Ray and HD

Article 8 – Regulations for Cinema & Music competition

• Fiction or documentary films in feature length duration will only be considered.
. Films must not have been participated in any other festival in Egypt.

Article 10 – Regulations for Cinema & Technology competition

• Fiction or documentary films in feature length duration will only be considered.
. Films must not have been participated in any other festival in Egypt.
• Films must not have been broadcasted in any Arab TV terrestrial or satellite channel, on the internet, mobile phone, or any other streaming service reaching Egypt, until the presentation of the film at the festival.
• Films must have been produced starting from of 1st January 2018.
• Films must be screened in their original version with English subtitles.

Article 11: Juries

. The festival administration selects annually the different jury members
• Official jury will be composed of prominent personalities in the cinema world having good experience of the film culture and industry.
. Cinema & Music competition, Children’s films competition, Cinema and Nature competition and Cinema And nature competition juries, will be composed of high profile international figures specialized in cinema and every related mentioned field above.
. The Festival administration could form other parallel juries for special purposes with the cooperation of other organizations.
• the jury members must not have any participation in the production or the commercial business of films in their competition.

Article 12: The Awards

12.1. The prizes awarded by the jury of the international Competition:
• Award for best film.
• Grand Jury Prize.
•Special Jury Prize.
• Prize for Best Actress.
• Prize for Best Actor
• Prize for Best Director
• Prize for best screenplay.
• Award for best artistic contribution.
• The official jury may award a maximum of two honorary certificates or special mentions.
12.2: The prizes awarded by the jury of the Children’s Films Competition:
– Best feature length film
– Best short film
– Best Actor
– Best Actress
– Best artistic contribution
12.3 The prizes awarded by the jury of the Cinema & Music competition:
– Best Film
– Best Music
– Best dance
– Best Song
– Best actor
– Best actress
12.4 The prizes awarded by the jury of the Cinema & Nature competition:
• Award for best film.
• Grand Jury Prize.
•Special Jury Prize.
12.5 The prizes awarded by the jury of the Cinema & Technology competition:
• Award for best film.
• Grand Jury Prize.
•Special Jury Prize.

Article 13: General participation conditions in all sections:

• No film may be withdrawn from the festival program after its selection and until the closing of the festival.
• The selected films should be sent along with all the marketing and promotional material required to promote the film, including the trailer/promo, which should be sent digitally or on a hard copy in High Definition/4k quality. The festival has the right to broadcast the trailer/promo in theaters, television, online, as it sees fit for the purposes of promoting the screenings of the film in the festival.
• During the festival, the film will be only screened in festival dedicated projection cinemas.
• The participating film will not be screened more than 4 times.
• A copy of the participating film must be delivered to the Festival office before 1st July 2021, to its following address:

• The festival could ask owners of rights of selected films to send secured internet link to download their films in DCP quality, to avoid delays in shipments caused by Covid-19 pandemic.
.The Festival shall apply the International Federation of Producers Association rules against Film Piracy
• The festival shall preserve the copies of received films from the day of arrival until their reshipment.
• All above conditions and dates are mandatory.
• The festival will bear the cost of the print inbound transportation, storage in Cairo, and insurance. The participants should bear the outbound shipment of the print from the festival within two weeks of the closing of the festival.
• The festival will cover the film copy insurance upon arrival at Cairo International airport and until its reshipment. In case of film loss, the festival’s responsibility is limited to the value of 250 $ for only a DCP copy. Any loss claims must be sent to the festival within one month of the closing of the festival or the claim might be rejected by the insurance company.
• The submission of a film to the festival means that the producer or company submitting the film accepts
all of the aforementioned regulations and conditions of the festival.

Article 14: The Regulations and their interpretation

• The festival president is the only person authorized to clarify any matter not clarified in these regulations
• The festival management reserves the right to act as it sees fit on any matter not addressed by these regulations.
• These regulations were issued in Arabic then translated to English and French and they are subject to Egyptian law.
• In case of conflicting interpretations, the Arabic version will prevail.
